What is membership?
At Catawba Valley we believe in a membership commitment to a local church for all born again believers (1 Corinthians 12).
Why become a member?
The answer is commitment; commitment both to Jesus Christ and His Church, reflected in giving, serving, and supporting through ministry involvement (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Joining the church will not save you or give you eternal life (Ephesians 2:8-9). The church is a place of spiritual growth for maturing believers. The church is the flock of God, with Jesus Christ being the Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:2-3).
The church is to be a place of community. God never intended for any Christian to live in isolation, but rather to belong to a community of believers. The church provides a place for Christians to be accountable for spiritual growth and to enjoy fellowship with other believers.
The community was designed to meet the needs of others (Acts 4:32-35). The church is called the “body of Christ”, one body, but many members (1 Corinthians 12:12). The church is the household of faith (Ephesians 2:19). Believers are children in God’s family (John 1:12).
New Testament believers are placed into the body of Christ through the ministry of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). Though membership in the local church, you become part of a community of believers. The church, as a community of believers, reaches out in the power of the Holy Spirit to share the life changing message of Jesus Christ (John 20:21).

At Catawba Valley we believe in a membership commitment to a local church for all born again believers (1 Corinthians 12).
- Confession of Faith - Faith is invisible, but it results in visible evidence. They are: a transformed life, witness to others, believers baptism, and identification with God’s people.
- An Expression of Gratitude - The church is Christ’s body on earth. He purchased it, formed it, and uses it to accomplish His will (Ephesians 5:25). When we identify with the Church, we express to God our commitment to and our gratitude for the Savior.
- A Confession of Need -The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to one another for spiritual growth. Believers cannot be accountable when they are not committed to a local church family. (Ephesians 4:16; Philippians 1:27).
- An Involvement in God’s Program - No local Church is perfect, but we need to invest our gifts and talents to fulfill God’s great plan (Romans 12:4-7). Together, we serve and minister to others thereby demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ.
